My skirt was black and white.
My cheeks were red and flushed from grief.
My hands still had yellow paint on them from the afternoon’s classes.
My eyes were green with envy of the others present who weren’t affected.
My toenails were purple.
But most importantly, my heart was blue to learn that this would be my last year at the place I called home for the past four years because my position had been cut by 66%, and I can’t afford to stay.
That is so sad! I hope you find a better position in a district that appreciates the Arts so much that they will not cut funding! HUGS!

Thank you. Fortunately, it’s not a matter of being unappreciative of the arts. It’s a matter of not having the student numbers needed to keep me for as many days. I am VERY fortunate to work for a county that is more supportive of the arts than I’ve ever seen elsewhere. I’m not alone in my bad news today. PE and music had days cut as well (although not as many), and three gen ed positions were cut. Our little, well-off, school community just isn’t growing right now.

Music, PE, and my position (Art) were cut in half this year in every elementary in my district. Not enough votes for the override bond to keep us. The prisons however, recieved a million dollars from the state. Nice huh

My heart is sad for you…. I would say it is the color of all the goo found in the bottom of the sink when you finish washing paint trays. I pray you find another position quickly.

WOW!!! I am out there with you… I taught Art at my district for 13 years.. I was excessed as a FT teacher 2 years ago and now these past 2 years I have been decreased to PT. I have been teaching 2 art classes a day in this same district, which as of next year, will have nothing. Be strong…there are far too many of us that are put in this position…eager to create…eager to teach.. love the children and have a passion for art…and to be let go or decreased so much that you feel you can barely make in imprint… is very sad. Be well… and stay strong….FIGHT FOR THE ARTS!!!

My heart is sadden for you. I completely understand the loss in numbers and the hard choice faced for the ones who have to choose a paycheck over a position. I have been reshuffle many times in the last 6 years. I know I am still waiting for the other school to drop in the up coming years.
