Fundraisers. Ugh. I have a problem with them, guys, I can not lie. I’m not sure I can exactly explain my problem, maybe because I feel like I’m pimping out my students, but I have reservations nonetheless. Maybe if the money went to the art room instead of computers? I don’t know. What are your thoughts? Do you love or hate art based fundraisers? Maybe you have mixed feelings? Tell me about it in the comments.

I LOVE fundraisers — but the money I raise stays in the art room…. If it was going towards the building fund, I would probably feel like you do. I’d probably ask for a percentage or the proceeds or see if they could do a greenery sale or something for computers.

When I do a fundraiser- the money goes to the art room so I don’t mind at all. I would tell those kids it’s about community service and give a big lecture if they kept it up. My kids like to avoid my lectures. By 6th grade, they usually can tell when one is working up inside me and they get to work.

Hate. It’s taking advantage (and assuming the right to do so) of what effectively becomes a child labor force with no consideration for the intellectual property rights they should have over the artworks they produce.

Thank you! I have such a hard time with it, that I actually shudder and cringe while explaining it to students.
